The purview of the Board of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA) is an academy exemplifying professional excellence in upper airway, breathing and sleep issues in the burgeoning field of sleep-related Dental Medicine (Dental Sleep Medicine).

President: Jon Caulfield DDS
Jon Caulfield DDS

Dr. Jon W. Caulfield owns and operates Epic Dentistry in Littleton, Colorado where he takes an integrated, whole health approach to dentistry, focused on the areas of Sleep, Airway and TMJ. He has been fortunate to work alongside world leaders in neuromuscular occlusion and pneumopedics and is now paying it forward, teaching hundreds of dentists worldwide how to integrate solutions for sleep, airway and TMJ into their practices. Dr. Caulfield is an instructor at the Institute for Craniofacial Sleep Medicine and leads the Clinical Advisory and Advocate Program at Vivos Therapeutics. A graduate of University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Dr. Caulfield also holds an advanced graduate degree with Occlusion Connections and a diplomate status with the American Sleep and Breathing Academy.

Sairam Parthasarathy M.D.

Dr. Parthasarathy has served as interim PACCS chief for two years. He joined the UA College of Medicine – Tucson faculty in 2004, when he moved here from Chicago to practice at the Southern Arizona VA HealthCare System’s Tucson VA Medical Center. He later became director of the SAVAHCS Sleep Medicine Lab, chief of its Pulmonary and Critical Care Section and SAVAHCS chief of research. In 2011, he joined the UA faculty full time and he launched the Center for Sleep Disorders at what was then University Medical Center and, in 2013, he became program director of the UA’s Sleep Medicine Fellowship. In Chicago, he was on faculty at Loyola University Medical Center, where he was director of the Sleep Disorders Center, and the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, where he was director of respiratory care and home oxygen therapy.

David Gergen

David Gergen, CDT and President of Pro Player Health Alliance, has been a nationally respected dental lab technician for over 30 years. He received the award for “The Finest Orthodontic Technician in the Country” given by Columbus Dental in 1986. He also has been appointed Executive Director and CEO of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy Dental Division, a national interdisciplinary academy dedicated to sleep training and education with over 60,000 members. David rolled out of bed on December 4, 1982 and had his career “ah ha” moment. He knew he was going to be an orthodontic technician and he knew he was going to help people all over the country to help treat their sleep disorders in partnership with their dentists. He has worked for some of the pioneers in the orthodontic and sleep dentistry fields. He was the personal technician for the likes of Dr. Robert Ricketts, Dr. Ronald Roth, Dr. A. Paul Serrano, Dr. Clark Jones, Dr. Harold Gelb, Dr. Joseph R. Cohen, Dr. Rodney Willey, Dr. Allan Bernstein, and Dr. Thien Pham. One of his proudest achievements is receiving The National Leadership award for Arizona Small Businessman of the Year in 2015

Eugene Azuma DDS
Eugene Azuma DDS

Dr. Eugene Azuma, received his Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa before pursuing his Professional Diploma in Secondary Education Specializing in Biology and Marine Science. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington DC.

In 1990, Dr. Azuma established Eugene M. Azuma, DDS, his family-oriented dental practice in Honolulu, HI. What started off as a small, two-operatory office later evolved into a technologically advanced dental practice in 1995. We utilize digital xrays, 3D conebeam radiography and dental Lasers for the Nightlase procedure.

Dr. Eugene M. Azuma, DDS is a specialist in sleep apnea treatment and dental sleep medicine. In 2016, Dr. Azuma, along with his colleagues, established Hawaii Dental Sleep Medicine, LLC.

Additionally, Dr. Azuma is a member of the American Dental Associations, Honolulu County Dental Society, Diplomat of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, Cerec Study club, Leeward Prosthetics Study club, and the Hawaii Sleep Society.

Edward Hobbs DDS
Edward Hobbs DDS

Dr. Hobbs has been treating patients in Longview for nearly 45 years. He’s highly regarded in the community for providing superior care in a friendly, professional manner. Dentistry is a dynamic field, with new technological advances occurring every day. That’s why Dr. Hobbs spends a considerable amount of time taking continuing education courses every year. He also keeps up with the current professional literature to learn about the latest breakthroughs in the field.

After graduating from the Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Hobbs jetted off to Southern California to broaden his dental knowledge. There, he attended the Herman OSTROW School of Dentistry at USC, completing a three-year residency where he concentrated on orofacial pain, oral medicine, and sleep disorders.

Dr. Hobbs is an author who has published scholarly articles in the Journal of the American Dental Association. He’s also an authority on dentures, dental implants, and treating sleep disorders. Dr. Hobbs shares his extensive knowledge by teaching and mentoring students and fellow dentists around the world.

Dr. Liao, is a bestselling author and thought-leader in natural wellness and the mind/mouth/body connection. He is the founder and director of the Whole Health Dental Center in Falls Church, VA, and has served as president of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine.

Dr. Toshi Hart is a graduate of the Arthur A. Dugoni University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, San Francisco and completed a General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital, Palo Alto, with rotations Stanford Hospital. She was Dental Director of a Public Health Clinic and a Department of Health and Human Services National Health Service Corps Student Loan Repayment Recipient in Healdsburg, California. She maintains privileges at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto, California and has been in practice for over 30 years previously limited to children now focused on Laser, Airway, and Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Toshi Hart is a Clinical Advisor for Vivos Therapeutics and is a featured presenter. In 2021, she published Use of a Novel Intraoral Device to Promote Nasal Breathing Reduces Risk of Tooth Decay in Children. Dr. Hart is a Diplomate with the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, certified Academy of Laser Dentist, a Breathe Institute Ambassador, Tethered Oral Tissues trained, a Qualified Oral Myofunctional Dentist and Certified in the Buteyko Breathing. In addition, she is a KOL for Convergent Dental Solea Laser and Candid Clear Aligners. As a trusted provider in the community, she works with a network of physicians to integrate medicine and dentistry in a medical model for Obstructive Sleep Apnea treatment in adults and early intervention treatment for children. She is passionate about her goals; to help a generation of children grow up to be free of decay with proper growth and development to become healthy adults.

Dave Singh is a US citizen who was born, educated and trained in England, UK. He holds three doctorates, including Doctor of Dental Medicine; a Ph.D. in Craniofacial Development, and a D.D.Sc. in Orthodontics. He was invited to relocate to the Center for Craniofacial Disorders, USA where he led a NIH-funded program of craniofacial/cleft lip and palate research. Currently, he is a Board Member of the American Sleep and Breathing Association, a member of the World Sleep Federation, an Academic Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, and Fellow of the International Association for Orthodontics, where he was awarded prizes in 2005, 2013 and 2014. He has published over 200 articles and books in the peer-reviewed medical, dental and orthodontic literature, and has lectured in Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Currently, Dr Singh is President of Vivos Therapeutics, Inc.

Jerry Hu DDS, DASBA, DABDSM, DACSDD

Jerry Hu, DDS, DASBA, DABDSM, DACSDD, MICOI, FICOI, AFAAID, LVIF, FIAPA, FIADFE, has been lecturing, doing clinical research, and practicing full time dentistry for over 26 years. He lectures internationally on cosmetic & implant dentistry, as well as on his greatest passion, in the field of dental sleep medicine. He has won numerous national awards in cosmetic and full mouth reconstruction dentistry, been published in several peer reviewed world renowned dentistry journals such as JDSM, JCD, Aegis, Dentistry Today, DSP, and his work even landed the cover of the highly regarded peer reviewed Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD's peer reviewed journal).

He also is adjunct faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) teaching the first interdisciplinary sleep medicine curriculum to Medical M4, Dental D4 and fellows/ Residents of the University, and also teaches at several annual national meetings and sleep medicine conventions and several online webinars, Clinical Pearls forum on social media (FB), teaches for several dental Academies/organizations (ACSDD, ASBA, Roundtable, Neirman's ) and had taught for many years for Sleep Group Solutions, Modern, Global/Microdental USA, and also for several other state level dental society's such as Missouri Sleep Society and North Carolina AGD. He also has developed 5 IP patents in dental sleep medicine and did a start up, O2&U, in Melbourne, Australia. When time permits, Dr Hu loves traveling and spending time with his family exploring the great outdoors in Alaska and Nevada.

Dr. Patricio Reyes MD, FAAN

Dr. Patricio Reyes is a board certified and highly regarded neurologist and neuropathologist with more than 30 years of clinical expertise, research, and drug development in Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. He currently serves as the Chief of Neurology and Director for Traumatic Brain Injury and Alzheimer’s Disease & Cognitive Disorders Clinics at the Phoenix VA Medical Center.

He was one of the first to establish rapid autopsy brain banking in the United States, and the first to build Dementia Centers in three states.  He also was a principal in numerous clinical trials that led to the FDA approval of new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Reyes has worked extensively with the Retired Players Association to improve health care for retired NFL players, as well as improving health care awareness for the boxing profession in his native Philippines.

He has been conferred with numerous awards throughout his career, including Scientist of the 21st Century, Physician of the Day by the Arizona House of Representatives, and Top Doctor in the Who’s Who Global Medical Directory.

Dr. Seltzer is a graduate of Tufts University, School of Dental Medicine. Has been in dental practice since 1982 and has been treating patients with oral appliances for obstructive asleep apnea since 1991.

His years of experience and extensive knowledge of oral appliances has enabled him , along with his partner, Jeffrey Rein DDS, and the outstanding staff at Long Island Dental Sleep Medicine, to build one of the largest and most successful dental sleep practices in the New York Metropolitan area.

With over 25 years of knowledge in dental sleep medicine, Dr Seltzer and the team at Long island Dental Sleep Medicine, is the official New York Pro Player Health Alliance office treating retired NFL players as well as the first and only office in New York State to be a Dental Sleep Medicine Accredited Facility by the Academy of Dental Sleep medicine.

Recently, Dr Seltzer, along with several other Diplomates of the ASBA had the honor and privilege, to be selected to speak in front of a congressional caucus in Washington D.C., on the dangers of undiagnosed and untreated OSA and its affect on public safety.

Dr. Valenzuela attended McGovern Medical School at UT Health Science Center of Texas. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Dell Children’s Medical Center and a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Valenzuela is a well-rounded physician specializing in adult & pediatric sleep medicine along with plenty of urgent care experience. Board-certified in pediatrics. Professional interests include narcolepsy and artificial intelligence within sleep medicine. Wearables and nearables” for sleep tracking/diagnostics and the role of artificial intelligence within sleep medicine, especially polysomnogram auto-scoring. Hypoglossal nerve stimulators and the various alternative therapeutics for obstructive sleep apnea. Narcolepsy and the pharmacologic options for symptomatic treatment.

Dr. Valenzuela is a well-rounded physician specializing in adult & pediatric sleep medicine along with plenty of urgent care experience. Board-certified in pediatrics. Professional interests include narcolepsy and artificial intelligence within sleep medicine. Wearables and nearables” for sleep tracking/diagnostics and the role of artificial intelligence within sleep medicine, especially polysomnogram auto-scoring. Hypoglossal nerve stimulators and the various alternative therapeutics for obstructive sleep apnea. Narcolepsy and the pharmacologic options for symptomatic treatment.

David Gergen, CDT and President of Pro Player Health Alliance, has been a nationally respected dental lab technician for over 30 years. He received the award for “The Finest Orthodontic Technician in the Country” given by Columbus Dental in 1986. He also has been appointed Executive Director and CEO of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy Dental Division, a national interdisciplinary academy dedicated to sleep training and education with over 60,000 members. David rolled out of bed on December 4, 1982 and had his career “ah ha” moment. He knew he was going to be an orthodontic technician and he knew he was going to help people all over the country to help treat their sleep disorders in partnership with their dentists. He has worked for some of the pioneers in the orthodontic and sleep dentistry fields. He was the personal technician for the likes of Dr. Robert Ricketts, Dr. Ronald Roth, Dr. A. Paul Serrano, Dr. Clark Jones, Dr. Harold Gelb, Dr. Joseph R. Cohen, Dr. Rodney Willey, Dr. Allan Bernstein, and Dr. Thien Pham. One of his proudest achievements is receiving The National Leadership award for Arizona Small Businessman of the Year in 2015

He has been fortunate to work alongside world leaders in neuromuscular occlusion and pneumopedics and is now paying it forward, teaching hundreds of dentists worldwide how to integrate solutions for sleep, airway and TMJ into their practices. Dr. Caulfield is an instructor at the Institute for Craniofacial Sleep Medicine and leads the Clinical Advisory and Advocate Program at Vivos Therapeutics. A graduate of University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Dr. Caulfield also holds an advanced graduate degree with Occlusion Connections and a diplomate status with the American Sleep and Breathing Academy.

Dave Singh is a US citizen who was born, educated and trained in England, UK. He holds three doctorates, including Doctor of Dental Medicine; a Ph.D. in Craniofacial Development, and a D.D.Sc. in Orthodontics. He was invited to relocate to the Center for Craniofacial Disorders, USA where he led a NIH-funded program of craniofacial/cleft lip and palate research. Currently, he is a Board Member of the American Sleep and Breathing Association, a member of the World Sleep Federation, an Academic Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, and Fellow of the International Association for Orthodontics, where he was awarded prizes in 2005, 2013 and 2014. He has published over 200 articles and books in the peer-reviewed medical, dental and orthodontic literature, and has lectured in Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Currently, Dr Singh is President of Vivos Therapeutics, Inc.

Andre Pierre Collins is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He started in Super Bowl XXVI for the Washington Redskins.

His current position is Executive Director PAF and NFLPA and as a former player himself, currently serves as the Executive Director of the Professional Athletes Foundation helping players transition out of the game. He is responsible for creating a sense of community and opportunity for former players. Andre’s driving force to make the transition smoother for former players is made stronger by his personal experiences after leaving the game.

Dr. Patricio Reyes MD, FAAN
Dr. Patricio Reyes MD, FAAN

Dr. Patricio Reyes is a board certified and highly regarded neurologist and neuropathologist with more than 30 years of clinical expertise, research, and drug development in Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. He currently serves as the Chief of Neurology and Director for Traumatic Brain Injury and Alzheimer’s Disease & Cognitive Disorders Clinics at the Phoenix VA Medical Center.

He was one of the first to establish rapid autopsy brain banking in the United States, and the first to build Dementia Centers in three states.  He also was a principal in numerous clinical trials that led to the FDA approval of new drugs for Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Reyes has worked extensively with the Retired Players Association to improve health care for retired NFL players, as well as improving health care awareness for the boxing profession in his native Philippines.

He has been conferred with numerous awards throughout his career, including Scientist of the 21st Century, Physician of the Day by the Arizona House of Representatives, and Top Doctor in the Who’s Who Global Medical Directory.

Dr. Somers directs the Cardiovascular Facility and the Sleep Facility within Mayo Clinic's Center for Clinical and Translational Science in Rochester MN.

His team's research focuses on the role of the autonomic nervous system in cardiovascular regulation in humans, with an emphasis on normal and disordered sleep. The team is also involved in studies of vascular biology in humans, examining how changes in neural mechanisms may influence the local control of blood vessels. Extensive collaborative interactions within and outside Mayo Clinic are fundamental to the successful evolution of Dr. Somers' research program. Current collaborations include studies with investigators at the University of Iowa and the University of Cincinnati and joint projects with academic medical centers in Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium.

Support for Dr. Somers' research consists of four R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health, a Dana Foundation grant and a NATO grant
